Week 6: Lots of Fun!

This week was lots of fun and learning!  We had a surprise visit from the Carrollton Fire Department on Thursday.  We learned all about fire safety and what firefighters do to help us.

The students LOVED seeing the inside of the fire truck!

In unit study we finished our fall unit by learning a little about apples!  One day, we sorted and graphed the apples we brought in:

The next day, we made REAL applesauce!  The students were very hands on in our applesauce-making.  We borrowed plastic knives from the cafeteria, and each student was given one cored apple to chop into little pieces.

They did such a great job handling the knives properly and cutting their apples into bite-sized pieces!

In language arts we finished our quick review of the alphabet and began to learn how to write a sentence.  We also continued to enjoy our literacy stations.  Here is a student at library station:

In math we finished learning about numbers 5-10.  Here are some students who are practicing writing the numbers as we sing our number song:

Next week:
In unit study we will be learning about jobs/community helpers.

In language arts we will be focusing on the letter Mm.  We will learn about the reading comprehension strategy of "making connections" and begin to practice it.  We will learn the sight words: a, me, the.... and add them to our word wall.  We will continue our student of the day routine.

In math we will begin to compare numbers (more, fewer, same) as well as one more than/one less than.

Have a great week!
