Week Three There Was More to See!

I know I keep saying this, but what a great class I have!  I am so lucky to have such wonderful kiddos who love to learn.  

 The APEX fundraiser began this week!  We had lots of fun at the pep rally:

 Every day Magical Mal comes in and gives a leadership lesson to us.  We love the rubber band bracelets that go along with the lesson!

 Our morning message is an important part of our day.  We reflect on the day before, get ready for the present day and work some language arts into it too.  Here, our morning message helper counts the number of Rr's in today's morning message:

We are having fun reviewing letters and sounds by playing memory match with the alphabet:

We are becoming experts at print concepts.  One thing that is important for beginning readers to do is point to words as they read them.  This is called tracking.  We try to make this fun by using different objects to point.  Here are some smarties using mini foam fingers to read their book:

On Fridays, we get to read with a buddy.  Here are some buddies doing a great job!

Another important concept to grasp is that letters make up words and words make up sentences.  An activity called "cut apart sentence" helps us understand this.  We mix up our words and have to put them back together almost like a puzzle.  



We have learned about a math program called ST Math.  ST Math was adopted by a our county last year as a brain researched math technology.  Students love "Jiji" the penguin and are learning so much as they play.  We all went to the computer lab this week and worked on our individual ST Math paths.




Next week will will continue to practice sorting objects by color, size and shape.  We will read books by the author/illustrator Mo Willems.  We will learn about the 5 C's that help us become better learners (creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and citizenship).
