It's Been Awhile!

When we came back from winter break we hit the ground running! :)  All of the students were ready to go!  Unfortunately, since then many of us have been hit with various viruses, etc.  :(  Still, we have kept on truckin' with lots of really important material.

In math last week we covered fractions!  I know, can you believe kindergarteners are doing fractions?  Virginia SOLs say that kindergarteners should be able to recognize 1/2 and 1/4 in shapes and sets (!).  You would be amazed how well the students are catching on to this.  Here we are making some shapes and dividing them into 1/2 or 1/4.

In language arts last week we focused on the letter Hh.  We learned new sight words: home, but, he, it.  We read books about "Mrs. McNosh" and practiced our prediction skills.

In unit study we learned about water!  We learned that it comes in 3 forms (solid, liquid, gas) and a little bit about those forms.

Coming up....

This week in math we will finish our unit about fractions.

In language arts we will focus on the letter Rr.  We will learn new sight words: here, are, go, going.  We will read non-fiction and fiction books about raccoons and continue to practice making predictions.  (this is a great skill to practice while reading at home as well!)  We will also be learning about writing notes and practicing this.

In unit study we will finish our unit on water, concentrating mostly on what sinks/what floats.  Then, we will begin to learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and why he is important.
