This week in math we continued our unit about measurement. We had a lot of practice with ordering objects from shortest to longest. Here, some students used a popcicle stick to locate 3 items that were longer and 3 items that were shorter. After documenting their findings on a white board, students then recorded the items in their math journals.
We also worked on a problem together, when we each made a "wiggly worm" only to discover they were all different lengths. We had to really problem-solve and work as a group to order 23 worms from shortest to longest!
In language arts this week, we focused on the letter Gg. We also read books that prompted us to explore different parts of the story such as character, setting and events.
In unit study, we worked on some measurement as well! We discussed temperature and how we can measure the temperature of our environment and even ourselves. We also created some Valentine bags and cards and celebrated Valentine's Day on Friday.
Coming up.....
Next week, in math, we will continue to compare lengths of objects. However, this week we will begin to measure different lengths using non-standard units of measurement.
In language arts, we will focus on the letter Oo. We will also be reading many non-fiction books and discussing the difference between fiction and non-fiction.
In unit study we will be looking at weight of objects. We will compare objects' weights as well as explore the difference between heavy and light.
