A Week of Learning!

This week, after a President's Day holiday on Monday, we started our Tuesday with a bang!  It was our 100th day of school, and we had a lot to do!  But first, we got to go to the cafeteria to see a Virginia Opera performance of Pinocchio's Sister.  Then, we came back to the room to work on some of our 100th day projects.

We made 100th day necklaces with 100 fruit loops!

And, 100th day hats with 100 stickers.

Some of us even dressed up to look 100 years old!  Even if we didn't (those of us who wanted to) got our picture taken and then modified using an aging app to make us look 100 years old! It was kind of creepy :). 



We ended our afternoon by watching 101 Dalmations and eating 100 Day Trail Mix (10 pieces of each snack).  What fun!

This week in math, we continued to learn about measurement.  We practiced our measuring skills using different non-standard units.  Here we are measuring things with cubes and recording our results:

In language arts, we focused on the letter Oo.  We also compared and contrasted fiction and non-fiction stories.

In unit study, we learned about weight.  We discovered the difference between heavy and light, and explored our classroom for examples.

Looking forward, next week:

In math, we will be learning about clocks, both analog and digital.  We will discuss different times of the day (morning/night) and how we use clocks to follow a daily schedule.

In language arts, we will be focusing on the letter Kk and reading traditional stories (3 Little Kittens, Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, The 3 Billy Goats Gruff).  We will discuss character, setting and beginning, middle and end (summarizing).

In unit study, we will talk about why we celebrate President's Day.  We will learn about two very important presidents, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.
