Week 15

This week, in unit study we learned all about different cultures and the holidays they celebrate in December.  We played dreidel:

We made red, green and black Kwanzaa necklaces:

 And on Friday, we got to make gingerbread man puppets, gingerbread houses, gingerbread men and played with gingerbread playdough:

 In language arts this week, we read all kinds of different versions of the Gingerbread Man.  We are learning how to predict what happens next in a story using picture and story clues.  The students enjoy sharing their predictions with their partner:

 We also learned about the letter Nn and new sight words: house, big, in, no. 

In math this week, we got a lot of practice with tallying data and graphing. 

One way we are continuing to build our knowledge of numbers is through our daily laps time.  After lunch each day, the students walk around the room while we play a number song.  As they pass by a teacher table they grab a cube from a basket.  When the song is over, students return to their table with their cubes and make groups of 5 with their classmates:

After all of the tables are ready, we come together on the carpet and count ALL of the tables cubes by 5s.  The students love this time of day!

Next week....

In unit study we will be learning about the holiday traditions surrounding Christmas.  We will be working on several projects to go along with this.

In language arts, we will be focusing on the letter Ii.  We will learn the new sight words: into, his, did.  We will be reading seasonal books and continuing to practice making predictions.

In math, we will be continuing to practice gathering data and creating graphs.
