Our butterflies emerged from their cocoon this weekend, so we observed them for a day and then set them free:
In math this week we began our subtraction unit by playing a fun game called "Squish." Students make 10 small play dough balls and then roll the dice to see how many to "squish." Then, they relate it to a number sentence such as "Ten minus 1 equals 9."
We have had so much "inside recess" due to rain lately, that I thought a recess field trip may be fun! We went across the hall and played with Mrs. Mann's toys and her class came across the hall to play with ours! The train table and the kinetic sand were a big hit!
On "A" Day, we made paper airplanes and had fun flying them in the hallway!
Sorted plastic bugs:
And drew bugs and cut them out of magazines:
We will be completing our entomology unit for language arts and science by learning about what bugs eat and who eats them. We will also learn how bugs help plants and people!
In math, we will continue to subtract and decompose numbers.
Have a great week!
