This week was a fun one at Carrollton Elementary School! Picture day was on Wednesday, and the students were dressed to impress! I look forward to seeing all the beautiful smiles as the proofs come back. Thursday was Read for the Record Day. We read the book Otis by Loren Long. The students loved the story of friendship between an old tractor and a new calf. We even had a visit from Mrs. Duncan-Hinds from Central Office. She is the coordinator of English, Language Arts and Reading.

In math this week, we compared sets of numbers using the vocabulary more, fewer and same. Here are some students making groups of the same number on each side of our ladybug workmats.

Next week in reading, we will complete our first unit of our basal reading texts. This will complete our quick review of each letter as well. After we have reviewed the entire alphabet, we will focus on one letter a week and begin to add sight words to our weekly agenda.
Next week in writing, we will practice prewriting (drawing pictures) and drafting (writing).
Next week in math, we will practice writing, identifying and counting groups of numbers 0-5. We will especially focus on one-to-one correspondence (making sure that we count each item in a group), and number formation.
Next week in unit study, we will begin identifying the 5 senses and how they help us learn about the world.
