In math, we learned a new song that teaches us how to correctly write the numbers 1-10. We practiced writing the numbers along with singing the song a lot this week. The students love using white boards and dry erase markers to practice making their numerals! We also tried out a new piece of technology that we were given recently by the CAES PTA. Although the pictures turned out horribly :( (something about the darkened room, I guess), I hope you can tell that I made a group of circles which were then projected using the document camera. The students had to count the circles and then write the number on their white board.
In language arts, we read books about children and we completed our review of the alphabet. We learned some more about writing. When we write, we are the authors and the illustrators. At this point in our writing "careers" it is very important to draw pictures that are detailed and include a background. It is also important that we begin writing simple sentences to go with our pictures.
In unit study, we learned about the 5 senses. We learned what each of our five senses are, and which part of the body uses the sense. Each day we delved a little deeper into one of the senses. Here are some students using their homemade binoculars to explore the sense of sight:

And here, we smelled some different scents using our sense of smell.

Looking forward....
Next week, in math, we will be continuing our study of number sense. We will continue counting, practicing writing and comparing numbers from 0-15.
In language arts, we will be focusing on the letter Mm. We will also learn the sight words: "a," "the," and "me." We will also continue illustrating and writing our own sentences.
In unit study we will finish our study of the 5 senses.
