Another Week of Learning

I just realized as I was beginning this post that I did not keep up with the picture-taking at all this week.  Oops!  Still, we have done a lot of learning this week.

In math, we learned about the difference between analog and digital clocks.  We also learned about the different parts of a clock (face, hour hand, minute hand, second hand).  Finally, we began to learn how to tell time on an analog clock to the hour.  On this day, I showed a large clock on the projector and the students matched it on their individual clocks.  

In language arts, we had so much fun reading some "classic" stories.  We read The Three Little Kittens, The Three Bears, Hansel and Gretel, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Little Red Hen.  Since most of us had heard many of these stories before, we tried something new, and attempted to "act out" the stories.  We cast actors for the various parts in the books and as I read the story, our actors reenacted the story.  The students LOVED doing this and watching this!  We focused on the letter Kk this week, and continued to discuss character, setting and events.  We also moved into talking about the beginning, middle and end of a story (summarizing).

In unit study this week, we learned a lot about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  On Friday, we compared and contrasted these two important presidents using a Venn Diagram.

Next week in math, we will continue to expand our knowledge about clocks and telling time.  We will be doing lots of practice telling time to the hour using both analog and digital clocks.

In language arts, we will be focusing on the letter Ww.  We will continue to summarize our stories that we read as a class, and we may even do some more drama!

In unit study, we will finish our learning about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and also learn about the famous American, Betsy Ross and why she is an important part of American history.
