Week 1

What a great first week in kindergarten!  I am so happy to have such a great class.  This is a wonderful bunch of students.  I can't wait to see how much they learn this year.

This week we spent a lot of time learning routines and procedures in our classroom. 

Not surprisingly, one of our favorite times of day is recess time when we can go outside and PLAY! 

Unit Study:  This week we learned about how to be great citizens in our community.  Great citizens follow the rules and know what to DO and what NOT to do. 

We read the book David Goes to School and decided that David is not a great citizen.  However, he did redeem himself at the end.  We used our cutting and gluing skills to make these cute Davids.




























We also read the book Words Are Not For Hurting.  We learned that some words are helpful and keep our heart happy.  Some words are hurtful and make our heart feel bad. 

 Language Arts:  This week we read many books, learned how to be a great listener during carpet time and honed our coloring skills as we colored alphabet pictures.  One of our favorite books was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.  We made these cute handprint coconut trees after reading the story. 

Math: This week we learned how to use our calendar math board.  We also practiced using all of the supplies in our pencil boxes.  We also played with math tubs, which are small manipulatives that we had fun sorting, counting and playing with. 

Next week we will......

Unit Study:  Practice taking turns and sharing, being honest, practicing self-control, respecting our belongings and participate in group settings. 

Language Arts:  Read song books, continue to review the alphabet, learn about drawing a picture as the first step in the writing process and practice rhyming. 

Math: Learn about about sorting and classifying objects.
