In unit study our focus was fall.
We made this chart together- the students told me signs of fall, and I wrote them down and added a small picture. We will add to this all year as we talk about the 4 seasons.

We made these cute trees (this class LOVES projects like these) after learning about why and how the leaves change color:
With our leftover tissue paper, we made these suncatcher leaves for our windows:
We also learned about weather changes in the fall, and discussed what we wear in the fall and how it differs from the summer. Each student illustrated a picture of fall clothes:
In language arts this week, we read books by Eric Carle. We learned that he is both an author and an illustrator. We also finished up our quick review of each letter in the alphabet. In our small groups, some of us are working on building our names and recognizing the letters in it:
We also learned about labeling. When we label we are writing for sound. Perfect spelling is not expected at this point. After seeing my example, the students did a great job labeling their own animal pictures:
In math this week we have been very busy! We begin each day by doing our calendar/mat board time. Here, we add our date, a paper clip for each day we've been in school and a minute to our clock. We also talk about the weather and the day of the week, month of the year and season.
We continued to practice sorting. Here we are sorting balls by hard/soft:
And by size....
The students enjoyed showing me their favorite way to sort:
They thought I was a little crazy when I showed them this box and explained that they were going to sort it:
But once they were at their tables they did a great job sorting by color, size and shape!
We also complete daily math journals:

Looking forward to next week....
In unit study we will complete our fall unit by discussing apples and pumpkins.
In language arts we will be reading Tomie DePaola books. We will continue to review the alphabet and focus on environmental print. In writing, we will continue to work on labeling our pictures.
In math we will be learning about repeating patterns.
Have a great week!
