Week 20

In unit study this week we learned all about shadows and light.  To tie into all that we also learned about Groundhog day.  We watched as Punxatawny Phil did not see his shadow this year.  Fingers crossed for an early spring!  We need some outside recess!

Here are some students exploring shadows with their groundhog puppets and flashlights:

In math this week we continued to learn about measuring length.  Here are some great teams who lined up five objects from shortest to longest:

In math small group we learned a new game called Race to Fill the Bowl.  In this partner game we paired up, took turns rolling the dice and added that many cubes to our bowls.  The first person to fill their bowl was the winner!

In language arts we continued to read some timeless fairy tales like The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Three Little Pigs.  We discussed both characters in the book and setting in the book.  We focused on the letter Pp.  We learned the sight words: put, play, say, says, day.

In reading small group some of worked on fluency by reading the letter sounds as quickly as we could without hesitating:

Looking forward to next week....

In unit study we will complete our shadows and light unit.

In math we will complete our measuring length unit.

In language arts we will be focusing on the letter Rr.  Our sight words are: here, are, our.  We will continue to read traditional fairy tales and we will now begin to discuss the events that happen in the story.

Have a great week!
