Week 5

We got a surprise this week!  Thanks to our great PTA, a fundraiser last year that surpassed our expectations and help from central office, our new playground set was delivered.  The students enjoyed watching the delivery and installation:

 

But they really enjoyed playing on it!  What a great teachable moment on taking turns, sharing and being polite.


In language arts this week we read books by author/illustrator Kevin Henkes.

In math this week, we learned about patterns and had lots of chances to practice different types of patterns.

In unit study we focused on our five senses.  Here we used our sense of touch to guess what was inside the bag.  The students easily guessed stones, wooden blocks and cotton balls.  Sandpaper was a bit tricky.

 We had fun making "binoculars" to help us use our sense of sight.
 
 
 Finally, we had to use our sense of sell to guess what was inside the cups.  This was our hardest task yet.  While most of us knew what the smell of coffee was, lemons, perfume and onions were a little more tricky.
