Week Six

We had another fun and learning-filled week in Room 105!

 We investigated our pumpkin patch pumpkins this week.  We measured them, counted the number of lines, imagined how we would decorate them and much more!

 I am so impressed with these students' oral language skills.  They do a great job sharing their thoughts with a partner during partner sharing.  

 One important literacy skill is understanding the difference between letters, words and sentences.  One way we practice this is by counting words on a page and placing sticker dots under each one.  This helps our finger know exactly where to point! 

 In math we are beginning to focus on number sense.  This is the students understanding of numbers, their relationship to one another, their symbolic representation and is able to use this knowledge in various situations.  Number sense will be something we work on all year long.  

 On Friday, we had a special guest visit.  Ms. Elisha came in to show us two horseshoe crabs and explain a bit about their importance in the ocean environment.  It was really cool to see them up close in our classroom!  

 Some of us even touched them! 

 Friday was full of excitement!  It was Imagination Play Day at CAES.  The third grade students worked hard creating their own games using cardboard and recyclables.  They were super excited to let the kindergarten students come down and try them out.  The kindergartners had a blast!  

Next week we will continue to build number sense in math, we will learn a bit about apples in science and we will read Bear books by Karma Wilson and then compare and contrast them.  Have a great week!
