Week Nine

We had a fun and BUSY last week of our first quarter.  Tuesday was Book Character Day, and it was so much fun to see all the characters in the parade!

Many friends are focusing on learning "Power Words" now.  This is a fun game to practice this skill.  We take turns picking a word.  If we can read it, we keep the cube and add it to our tower.
In math, we're learning to recognize numbers and their representations.  A great way to have fun while practicing this skill is to play dice games.  This simple game of rolling, counting and moving is a big hit with the students:
Number go fish is another fun way to practice number recognition:

We have been learning all about animals and becoming "zoologists."  This week we learned how to tell if an animal is a mammal.  Here we are doing research to find books about mammals:

After we chose one "mammal book," we used our powers of research and observation to create a scientific drawing of our mammals.

Looking forward to next week... We will continue to study mammals in language arts/science research lab.  In math, we will begin to compare numbers using the language: more, fewer, same. Have a great week!
