Week of Learning

This week, we began with Monday being Saint Patrick's Day.  Many students dressed in green to celebrate!  When we returned from resource, we saw some strange footprints in our room....
 
which led us to find GOLD (Rolos candies) in our pencil boxes.  Most of us though there was a leprechaun on the loose.  It was very nice of him to share his gold we thought. 
 

In math this week, we continued our study of money.  Here we are practicing identifying groups of coins worth: 

 The students are doing well, but if you have any spare change at home, have your child continue to practice adding nickels and pennies to make groups of change up to 10 cents. 

In reading this week we continued to focus on reading both non-fiction and fiction books and then comparing and contrasting the two.  Our letter of the week was Vv.

In unit study we finished up our unit about maps and globes.

Next week

In math we will be reviewing many of the concepts we have covered thus far in this 9 weeks.  Topics include: money, sets of numbers, one more/one less and graphing.

In language arts, we will be focusing on the letter Qq.  We will be reading the traditional tale "Five Little Ducks" and continuing to compare and contrast fiction/non-fiction.  When we read fiction stories we will draw attention to the beginning, middle and end.  When we read non-fiction storeis we will draw attention to the various text features that are not in fictional stories. 

In unit study we will begin an exciting investigative unit about magnets.  This is a fun unit for the students.  They always enjoy it a lot!
