Welcome to Kindergarten!

Wow!  What a busy, exhausting, but FUN week!  I don't know about the students, but I've been asleep before my head hit the pillow.  It has been so much fun meeting and getting to know all of the new faces in my room.  What a great bunch of kiddos!

This week we spent a lot of time learning about routines and procedures in our classroom.  Every teacher has a different way of doing things, so even if a student has been in school before, this is an important week.  Most of the students were quite ready to jump right into the classroom, however, it makes for a much smoother year when we spend the first week establishing our system. 

So after learning our way around Carrollton, meeting new friends, memorizing our daily schedule and of course, playing on the playground, what more could there be to learn?  LOTS!!

NEXT WEEK....

In language arts....

* We will be reading lots of familiar song books. 
* We will be doing a quick introduction to the letters in the alphabet (we'll go more in depth later on).
* We will be focusing on rhyme.
* We will be introducing our literacy workstations.  

In math...

* We will sort objects into appropriate groups (categories) based on one attribute.  

* We will learn to classify sets of objects into groups (categories) of one attribute.

* We will label attributes of a set of objects that has been sorted.

* We will name multiple ways to sort a set of objects.

In unit study... 

* We will learn that good citizens are involved in their homes, schools, and communities. 

* Good citizens take responsibility for their own actions. 

* Good citizens participate in making decisions in the classroom. 

* Good citizens work well with their classmates in groups.
