Our highlight of this week was our 100th day of school! We had so much fun dressing like we were 100! Even if we didn't dress up, most students let me "oldify" their picture so that they could see what they would look like at 100 years old. Many teachers joined in the fun. The students could not stop laughing when we viewed them as a class! :) Here is everyone:
We also had lots of fun making 100 fruit loop necklaces. The students counted 10 sets of 10 fruit loops and then used their fine motor skills to string every one on a necklace. They did a great job!
We also tried to use 100 cups to build a structure. Many students had trouble accomplishing this using ALL 100 cups, but this group really worked together and COLLABORATED and COMMUNICATED to do it. They were so proud!!
For another 100 day activity, we made 100 day trail mix. We added 10 of 10 different snacks to a bag and mixed it all up. This was our special snack for this day!
One of our favorite activities of the day was our 100 kisses hide and seek. Each student hid about 6 Hershey's kisses around the room that had the numbers 1-100 on them. After that, they had to go find 6 kisses that were not their own. Once they found a kiss, they had to put it in the correct spot on the 100 chart by looking at the number at the bottom. This was a lot of fun and great number recognition practice! There are still about 3 Hershey's kisses hiding in our room right now though that we can't find. Oh well! :)
We finished learning about the forest ecosystem this week, and began exploring oceans. We enjoyed creating this octopi using some of our leftover cheerios from the day before:
In math, we will begin learning about coins and their values.
In language arts/science research lab we will continue our exploration of oceans!
