The next day, we kicked off our school fundraiser, Apex Fun Run with a FUN pep rally! This got the students really excited and ready to begin this program!
The next day, our DREAM team member visited our classroom to present a leadership lesson. So far this week he talked to us about "Diving In," "Resourcefulness," and "Elevating."
We also had a treat on a rainy day. We switched classrooms for inside recess and had a ball playing with "new" toys in Mrs. Morris's room.
Academically speaking.... This week we began to learn about plants and their life cycle. To begin, we took a look at seeds up close. These beans had been soaked for a few hours in water, so they were easy to pull apart and see the parts. We saw the seed coat, the food source and the baby plant.
In math, we are still working on addition. These students are becoming addition geniuses! :)
In language arts we focused on the digraph: sh. We learned the sight words: she, did, eat, ate. We practiced our questioning skills and read books like Stone Soup and Growing Vegetable Soup. We are also writing a collaborative class story. Each day, the student of the day gets to add a sentence. Sometimes it's tricky, because we have to work together to make sure there is a beginning, middle and end. Plus, our story has to make sense. This is a great review of summarizing. It also helps our writing skills. Every day, the student of the day points to each word and we choral read as a class. This helps our concept of word and reading abilities!
Looking forward to next week....
In unit study we will complete our plant unit.
In math, we will continue to study addition.
In language arts, we will focus on the digraph "ch." We will learn the sight words: his, her, had, him. We will continue to practice our questioning skills as we read books about food and lunch.
Have a great week!
